Holly taught us how to create a make up look specific for black and white photgraphy. She taught us many differeny techniques in order to demonsrrate this. She also explained that the skin needs to be analysed in a different way. For expmple redness may not need to be concealed but the darker tones of the skin will need to be. Colours are not important in Black and white photography as it will look different under the filter. Contour is important in this because its all about shape and tone and how you use it to your advantage. A bold lip will always look good and contouring of the eyes will help fetures stand out. By over highlighting the skin in the normal areas enables the skin to not look as flat

Holly's demonstration;

Holly prepped the skin and applied bourjois Healthy Mix foundation. She created two different looks on the face. One natural and the other heavily highlighted. Using s gloss will give a strong highlight in black and white. Also, powder will make the skin look flat in photos. She then applied a brown eyeshadow to the crease of the eye to give contour and dimension to the shape. Then using a white acrylic paint from MAC she lined the eye, then added mascara.

Step by Step - My Recreation

1. i prepped the skin as usual using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser. So i have a clean base to work on. I then applied MAC face and body onto the skin, mixing shades C2 and C3, giving a fresh dewy finish.

2. Then using the dermacolour palette i concealed under the eyes to reduce the darkness as this will show in the photos.

3. I then patted on strobe cream onto the tops f the cheekbones. Then added soft and gentle highlighter to give extra dimension and shine.

4. I then contoured the face with a dark brown contour powder in 'Shadowy' from MAC. Again to add dimension to the face so it wasnt so flat.

5. I then applied 'Kryolan White Eyeliner' in snow to the lash line an followed on with a flick to finish.

6. I then applied a purple shade of lipstick called Heroine by MAC. This was bright but had a dark undetone so showed up well in Black and White.

Evaluation:

In evaluation i think my first attempt at was a success. However, there are areas for improvement. Next time i will straighten and correct the eyeliner. This eyeliner was extremly hard to use as it is quick drying and hard to go over once dry. The lips came out well and showed a very deep colour in black and white. For this look i chose a bright colour purple called 'Heroine' by MAC which had a dark undertone. For next time i will add more highlighter to the cheekbones to add more dimension and shine. But overall i think the look worked well.
