Shampoo, Condition and Finish

Todays task was to complete a shampoo and condition of the models hair, then finished with a blow dry and style. For the hair washing i was plunged into an unknown territory. Ive only ever practiced dry styling of the hair, or when it has been sprayed with water. So for me this was a new experinece.

Washing the hair:

1. I started off my checking the tempreature of the water on the inside of my arm, to make sure it wasnt too hot. Then checked with the client if the tempreture was warm enough to carry on.

2. I then made sure i had saturated all the hair throughly. Then squeezed the hair in a downward motion to get rid of any excess water before shampooing.

3. I then used a Loreal 'Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight' straightening shampoo. This was a good shampoo to use on Nikitas hair as it acts as a heat defense. I felt like this product would strengthen her hair as well as stopping breakage when heat styling.

4. The two techniques i used for shampooing and conditoning the hair are the Effleurage and Petrissage massage techniques. I applied the shampoo onto the hair then using the effleurage technique i massaged the scalp using smoothing, stroking movements applying adequate pressure evenly across the scalp. I started at the centre of the head, towards the front hairline, over the crown the finish at the nape of the neck. I did this several times to ensure all the product is evenly distributed through the hair and down to the ends.

5. I then rinsed the shampoo out making sure the water runs clear making sure all product is out of the hair. I then repeated the shampooing again, using the effleurage technique again. I shampooed the clients hair twice to ensure all the oils and dirt are out of the scalp and hair.

6. I then followed this on with conditoner. Like the shampoo i used Loreal 'Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight' straightening conditioner. Again, this has heat defence properites in it so strenghtened the hair. It also has a frizz repellent property in the formula making it a good product to use for sleek, straight hair styling.

7. Using the petrissage technique; a deeper more stimulating kneading motion i massaged the scalp again. This is a type of massage that improves blood supply, creates sebum and loosens a tight scalp. The pads of your fingertips are used to give an even distribution across the scalp. I started at the front of the hairline, then kneaded towards the crown keeping the pressure the same throughout.

8. I then continued to rinse out the conditioner, making sure the water ran clear and the hair isnt heavy. I then squeezed out the hair in intervals in a downward pulling motion, making sure all any excess water is removed. I then wrapped the hair and scalp into a towel and sat the model in the styling chair.

Products Used:

- Loreal 'Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight' Straightening Shampoo

- Loreal 'Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight' straightening conditioner.

- Wide toothed comb

Straight Blow Dry:

1. I took the hair out and combed it throough with a wide tooth comb making sure all tangles. Then sectioned the hair into 4 equal sections. Starting from the middle parting made two equal sections, Then from behind the middle parting down towards the back of the ear and repeated on the opposite.

2. Then sectioned a small bit at the nape of the neck. Using a flat paddle brush i took the middle section of hair. Using the hairdryer in a downwards position so that it flattens down the hair shaft and smooths it to give a straight outcome.

3. I repeated this step doing small sections at a time until the back of the head was fully straight.

4. Then moved onto the side sections of the hair. I used the same method as before but was cautious around the ears and the face. So blow dryed away from the face. I then finished it off with hairspray to complete a straight blowdry.

Products Used:

- Heat defense spray

- Sectioning Clips x4

- Pintail comb

- Wide toothed Comb

- Hair Dryer

Final Outcome - Straight BlowDry

Finished Style - Curly Blow Dry:

To complete the style i used a curling iron to give soft loose curls. I did this buy using a medium sized barrell curling iron. Held it on for 30-45 seconds then spritzed it with hairspray. I did this until all the ends of the hair were curled. To make them loose i brushed through the curls with my fingers to seperate and loosen them up.
