Lucia Pica a 38 year old, Italian born make up artist, who just a mere 15 years ago moved from Naples, Italy to London to persue a career in make up. Her first ever make up experience was at a very young age watching her mother apply her own make up. As she grew older she found that she started experimenting heavily with make up, a daily battle to perfect a look with trial and error. She then pursued her career further by enrolling herslef onto a Make up course at the infamous 'greasepaint School of MakeUp', from learning all the skills necessary she began assiting Make Up Artists to gain valued industry experience. She was plunged into the deep end by having the chance to assist no other than the legendary Charlotte Tilbury; this is where her career first started to blossom. She helped assist many other leading make up artists but stayed with Tilbury for a few seasons before becoming her first ever assistant for three years, then became a solo artist.
Her work has been displayed alongsidet some of the industrys finest artists and splashed across the pages of Vogue and ID. She also appears regularly throughout all of the Fashion weeks globally, representing fashion houses such as Houses of Holland and Givenchy; to just name a few. Her style reflects the effortless modern Londoner with that bold English style. Lucia Pica has now become the new global creative makeup director and colour designer, for no other than the leading designer beauty brand Chanel. From starting her new role she is set to push the boundaries and bring a bold nw chapter into the brand. She is known for her brave use of colour and textures. Pica works very closely on sset with photographers such as Alasdair Mclellan and Willy Vanderperre. Also spotted backstage at fashion shows like Roksanda. She is very confident with her use of bold colours and ocntrasting lines. The use of shade reveals her character. In 2012, Lucia was announced as the 'industrys most influential new-school' make up artists.
“Where strong meets sophisticated, with a feminine feel… Women who are not afraid of strong eyeliner or real lipstick that pops.”
- Lucia Pica

In modern times its worth reminding eachother that the focal point of great beauty has always been the face. Its a way of commnication and a chance to make a first impression, the first thing someone sees when greeting. Pica is part of a large diverse group of individulas who together are responsible to change and adapt the faces of many people. They are solely in control of the way our faces are developed to portray our indivudulaity and certain impressions made.
"I like to think that when I work there is a certain harmony in my use of colours and textures that can be translated into a woman's everyday life, that something I do might inspire someone to try something new and experiment with products in a different way to announce their beauty,"
Lucia Pica inspires me mainly because her way of working is very unique. She allows her self to express inner feelings whilst aiding the belief that 'Imperfection is beauty' on all women. She appretiates the raw skin and her work reflects this. Her work is inspirational because it allows me to be more vindictive and fearless with my own work. Not everything has to be perfect or to a set structure, thats why i like the way she works. Also, she is very all over with her work. She doesnt do anything by half, if the eye needs to be bright she wont just go in with one bright colour she will mix and blend colours togther to really make the feature pop. The roots of Lucia Picas work fall primairly on natural beauty and enhancing what is already there. I like this style of work as it doesnt hide or mask the real beauty of someone. Her view on make up is less does definatly mean more, not everything needs to be covered up or concealed. Products can be used sparingly and it makes more of an impact if done properly.
